EHRD 642 - Program Development in Adult Education
EHRD 642 - Program Development in Adult Education
EHRD 642 focused on the comprehensive design, implementation, and evaluation of adult education programs. The course emphasized needs assessment, stakeholder engagement, curriculum alignment, budgeting, marketing, administration, and evaluation planning. Through collaborative and individual assignments, I developed a full-scale adult literacy program proposal grounded in adult learning theory and community-based planning principles.
Individual Foundations Work
Philosophy & Planning Reflection
This assignment required reflection on adult education philosophy and the Interactive Model of Program Planning. It demonstrates my ability to analyze planning assumptions, culturally responsive teaching practices, and philosophical alignment within program development.
Program Concept Development
In this assignment, I developed the foundational concept for an adult literacy program, including mission, goals, anticipated challenges, and accessibility considerations. This work reflects early-stage strategic thinking in community-based program development.
Instructional Design Exercises
Instructional Design Worksheet
This worksheet demonstrates needs assessment planning, learning outcome development, and instructional alignment. It reflects my ability to identify learner demographics, logistical considerations, and evaluation strategies prior to program implementation.
Assessment & Survey Development
This artifact showcases my ability to construct formative and summative assessments aligned with learning objectives. It includes literacy evaluation tools and participant survey messaging.
Program Development Project
Second Chance Literacy: ESL Program Proposal
The Second Chance Literacy (SCL) program proposal represents the culmination of this course. Developed collaboratively, the program addresses adult ESL literacy needs within Brazos County, Texas. The plan includes:
Executive summary
Needs analysis and problem statement
Stakeholder identification
Instructional design framework
Transfer of learning strategy
Formative and summative evaluation plans
Administrative timeline
Budget and funding plan
Marketing strategy
Professional Reflection
EHRD 642 strengthened my ability to design adult education programs from conception to evaluation. Prior to this course, I understood elements of training design; however, this course required systems-level thinking that integrated budgeting, stakeholder engagement, marketing, instructional alignment, and evaluation.
Developing the Second Chance Literacy program deepened my understanding of how educational inequities intersect with poverty, language access, and community infrastructure. The process required balancing aspirational mission statements with practical constraints such as funding, logistics, and accessibility.
Through this course, I strengthened my ability to:
Conduct needs assessments grounded in demographic data
Align learning outcomes with instructional activities and evaluation methods
Design formative and summative assessment systems
Develop budget justifications and administrative timelines
Plan for transfer of learning beyond the classroom
This course significantly shaped my strategic thinking and reinforced the importance of inclusive, community-based adult education design.
